Algerian Arabic

Vehicular language primarily spoken daily in Algeria, alongside Modern Standard Arabic and French. Algerian Arabic is used in internal communication and operational management, while contracts and payslips are in Modern Standard Arabic and frequently in French.

Amharic

Anglophone Africa

Approved employment contract

Employment contract whose compliance has been validated by a local administrative authority (labour inspectorate, Ministry of Employment). Several African countries require homologation for certain contract categories: specific fixed-term contracts, expatriate contracts, free-zone contracts.

Arabic

Official language primarily in Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Libya, Egypt, Sudan, Mauritania, as well as the Comoros and Djibouti (co-official). Arabic is the official language of public administrations in North Africa and Sudan: many legal and tax documents must be produced in Arabic, alongside French or English depending on the country.

Bonus and incentives

Variable compensation paid on top of the base salary (performance bonus, seniority allowance, performance incentive, 13th month). Their social and tax treatment depends on local law and must be properly integrated into payroll to remain compliant.

Botswana Pula (BWP)

Contract amendment

Dismissal

Employer contributions

Social contributions borne exclusively by the employer, computed on the payroll mass and funding retirement, health, family benefits and work-injury coverage. Across Africa, their total rate can exceed 25% of gross compensation depending on the country and remains a key component of employer cost.

Employer of Record (EOR)

A model where a specialized third party becomes the legal employer of a worker in a given country, on behalf of a client company. Gambian Dalasi (GMD)
